ABOUT US

Thomas Carter Chapter held its first official meeting at Mt. Cross, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, on February 20, 1936, with Mrs. F.K. Perrow, Sr., as organizing regent. Our chapter was named for a distinguished patriot, Thomas Carter, who served three years in the war before coming to live in our county at a plantation he named "Green Rock." He and his wife, Winifred Hobson, are buried in the cemetery, which is maintained by Thomas Carter Chapter.

Thomas Carter is proud of its participation and support of community members and projects. Each year, we sponsor students for recognition through history essay contests; sponsor high school seniors for Virginia DAR Scholarships; present the Good Citizen Award to seniors in county schools; and present several local citizens with community service awards for their volunteer service. We participate in NSDAR projects such as saving soup labels and computer cartridges to be sent to DAR Schools.

MEETINGS are held monthly from September through May, except December, on the second Saturday, 2:30 p.m. We make a field trip to a historic site annually.
